Meet Our Sussex Spaniel....

This past weekend at the Mount Ogden Kennel Club was all about Andy and his buddy, Rowdy the Sussex Spaniel. Everywhere they went, people stopped to ask, What kind of dog is that?" And honestly we can't blame them-- Sussex Spaniels are a rare sight these days!

In fact, the Sussex spaniel is one of the rarest dog breeds in the world. There are believed to be fewer than 1,000 Sussex spaniels world wide, with only around 600 currently registered with the American Kennel Club and fewer than 400 spread throughout the rest of the world. So when people meet Rowdy, It's often the very first Sussex Spaniel they've ever seen in person. We are very blessed to have been entrusted with Rowdy by Renada Teesdale at Raven Creek Kennels.

Originating from Sussex England, the Sussex Spaniel was bred as a hunting dog designed to flush birds and game from thick, thorny brush. With their short legs, long bodies and rich golden liver

coats, they are impossible to miss. They're also known for being stubborn, protective (resource guarding), and fiercely devoted to their people.

Once a Sussex chooses you, you're theirs forever.

Rowdy had a very good first day in the ring, showing us exactly what makes him special. He earned first in his class, then going on to earn Best Owner Handled. It was fun to watch him do so well on his first day.

What about Rowdy's other companions?

Andy and Rainey Logan Ut, May 17, 2026

Without question his favorite dog companion, little tri-color Rainey.

Rowdy and Rainey are inseparable and can usually be found side by side where ever the action is. She has even learned to howl like Rowdy, NOT our favorite thing-- ha ha

Miss Rainey also had a very exciting weekend, making her first show ring appearance. She did fantastic, taking second in her class. We were thrilled with how well she handled herself for her debut weekend. Andy will continue to show Rainey throughout this year.

Jana, Cord, and Rebel Logan Ut. May 15, 2026

Marvelous Rebel continued her winning ways with two days of Select Bitch and two Days Opposite Sex also winning Best Owner Handled on those days. She continues to move closer to her Grand Champion Bronze title.

Rebel also had her heart tested by a Cardiologist, and her eyes tested by an ophthalmologist, we are proud to say, she passed with flying colors.

What about Cord? He is looking more and more like his momma, wouldn't you say? Our fun loving little guy, won his 6-9 mos. puppy class every day. Adding more points for his Puppy of Achievement Award.

Jana and Coco Sat, May 16, 2026- Mount Ogden Kennel Club, Logan Ut.

Last but not least Our beautiful Coco gave us such a sweet surprise. She won first place in her 6-9 puppy class every day but one. On that day she beat a list of beautiful girls to earn Reserve winners bitch from the puppy class. It literally brough me to tears. The little girl who just two times ago was terrified of all the busy sights and sounds, marched around like a little champion.

All in all, it was a weekend full of wagging tails, proud moments, and a whole lot of heart - exactly the way we like it here at Zina Bee. Just a Sussex and his buddies!
